To The Water Found on Mars and the Life We Hope It Supports

Pardon us if we barge in; we’re not bad neighbors it’s just that we have been alone in this whole goddamn universe for so long, as long as we can remember and it’s so nice to finally have a universe-mate.

Mind if we park our rocket in your drive there? You headed out anytime soon?

We can go together. Seriously, we’ll drive. We did, after all, get all the from Earth to here, and we haven’t seen you in our neighborhood so maybe our transportation is more reliable.

This is a wild planet; we like what you did with the place. Very zen. Very spare. That’s ok; we can help with that if you want. We gotta guy who specializes in these kind of ground-up operations.

We brought you a gift, giftS we should say. We weren’t sure what you like to eat so we brought chocolate, pretzels, baked potatoes, beer and cream soda, figured that would cover just about all of it.

We came all this way; can we get a tour? We know we just showed up unannounced, but we’ve been trying for so long. We’ve been calling out, sending out music and speeches into space. We have people sitting with headphones on, listening for your voices or some response.

Really, we’re just glad to meet you. We have so many questions. Did you look for us, too? Did you wonder if we would be friendly? Did you watch us, your closest neighbor, through your telescopes? Do you believe in God? Do you think about where we all came from? Do you write poetry? Do you fall in love? Have you figured out how not to hurt each other? Can we stay here a while? Can we have a drink? We’ve come so far; we’re so thirsty.
